Journal Design

Like many creative types, I journal obsessively. On average, I fill about 3 or 4 composition notebooks a year, which I’ve done since I was 15 years old. That’s added up to quite a few plain, boring as crap black notebooks stacked in my closet. Recently, I decided that I want fun notebooks to journal in. Unfortunately, most of the options on the market didn’t do very much for me. Either they were too “fancy” and I didn’t feel comfortable writing in them, or they were designed for 10 year olds, and of course everything I found that I did like was made in China. After spending a day searching online, I found a Canadian company that makes fun, eco-friendly, fair-trade composition notebooks which were beautiful and trendy and, of course, right out of my price range. That tore it. I decided to try my hand at making my own notebooks, with my own designs. This is the design for the cover of the first one and I’m really happy with how it came out. :)

  1. OMG That’s gorgeous! Have you thought about submitting this so it can be turned into a notebook? How would you even go about doing that? This is so cute. I love it. I would buy this. :)

    1. Right now I’m pretty much making the equivalent of a minicomic — just 8.5 by 11 paper folded over and stapled down the middle. I was thinking about putting some up for sale on my blog once I get three or four different designs done. :)
